Read the full storyWealden has four towns of roughly the same size and no centre at all. Crowborough and Uckfield are in the north, up in the High Weald with Forest Row, Buxted, Mayfield, Wadhurst and Hartfield around them and Ashdown Forest on the doorstep. Hailsham and Polegate are in the south, closer to Eastbourne, and Heathfield sits between. The council’s own offices are at Hailsham. Wealden was due to disappear into a new East Sussex Council in April 2028, but the government paused the programme on 7 September 2026 and has not said when it will decide.
Crowborough Today reports from the record for all of it. In a district this rural the planning register matters more than anything else, because a field on the edge of a village becomes an estate on paper long before it does on the ground. We read the register, the licensing notices and the committee papers, and we link to the document on every fact.
